The RHS Show Tatton Park set in acres of Cheshire countryside is famous for its friendly atmosphere, vibrant displays and inventive ideas to take home. Bursting with colour and creativity, this entertaining event pushes the boundaries of a traditional gardening show, acts as a platform for fresh design talent and presents the very best in community gardening.
As well as the popular large show gardens and smaller back to back gardens, a highlight for many visitors is the RHS/Ball Colegrave National Flower Bed Competition, where local authorities and colleges show their skills in seasonal bedding.
Tatton is again playing host to the fabulous displays of The British Florist Association.
This year sees the debut of the RHS National Young Designer of the Year Competition at RHS Show Tatton Park. Three young garden designers have been chosen to create show gardens, and one will be crowned the RHS National Young Designer of the Year.
Gardens
Tatton has rightly earned its reputation for exciting, vibrant show gardens - some maybe controversial, but they are never boring!
Show gardens
Some of the UK’s best and newest designers create the larger show gardens, presenting new ideas and explosive concepts. Up to 225 sq m in size, the show gardens display a range of superb designs. School gardens are also included in this section.
Back to back gardens
These contemporary, exciting smaller gardens are designed for small urban or rural spaces. The back to back gardens provide inspiration and ideas in a 6m by 4m space.
Visionary Gardens Competition
This exciting new category is sure to be popular with the gardening public and media alike. It provides an opportunity for designers to break the mould of garden design and show innovation and foresight.
The RHS Young Designer of the Year Award
The RHS devised this award to encourage emerging UK creative talent, with show garden funding awarded to the three designers selected to exhibit from a shortlist of six. The gardens are of a fixed size and will be judged at the show to RHS criteria and are eligible for RHS medals.
RHS/Ball Colegrave National Flower Bed Competition
This is a special highlight of the show providing an explosion of colour and excitement. Local authorities and colleges compete, using their skills and experience to stage a flower bed that reflects their community’s identity.
The Wonderful World of Vegetables Competition
The Cheshire Schools Growing Competition this year features colourful and interesting vegetables grown by local schoolchildren. The initiative is to help children understand where vegetables come from and encourage them to see them in new and exciting ways. The seeds were kindly donated by S E Marshalls Seeds & Co and the public will be asked to vote for their favourite container.
National Plant Societies Marquee
This marquee houses diverse displays from a wide range of plant societies and Plant Heritage National Plant Collections® holders; Plant Heritage was formerly the National Council for the Conservation of Plants and Gardens, NCCPG). The Cheshire Group of Plant Heritage is demonstrating its important role in conserving our plant heritage.
