At the UK’s busiest seal rescue centre you can experience animal welfare in action. Encounter fascinating streamlined seals and playful otters.
Set on the gorgeous Helford estuary, the National Seal Sanctuary is home to the some of the most playful seals and sea lions around, as well as otters, ponies, goats and sheep.
Easter 2010 welcomed the arrival of a fantastic new colony of Humboldt penguins! Enjoying their specially designed brand new home, these endearing and comical creatures come from the coasts of Chile and Peru where there are estimated to be fewer than 10,000 pairs still surviving.
And now there’s a brand new pirate-themed play area that dares you to test your sea worthiness in the exciting ‘Pirate Bay’. Brave buccaneers can sail their way through the obstacle course and even walk the plank! There’s no finer play area in Gweek if sunken treasure is what you seek!
At the Seal Academy, you won’t just learn about seal rescue, you can become a rescue volunteer yourself. Discover how to tube feed a seal pup and take its temperature. Don't worry though; the special 'plastic' pups don't bite. The real seals can be observed at their most graceful from the underwater observatories.
Enjoy the beautiful woodland walk and follow the Nature Trail. Learn all about the amazing creatures which are left high and dry twice a day in the amazing Rockpool Experience – where you can even hold a crab and a starfish!
Facilities include café, summer bbq, gift shops and safari bus from Easter to October. Daily interactive talks and feeding demonstrations make this a day out for all the family!
