Dachau - Excursion from Munich

365Tickets

A few weeks after Hitler's appointment as Chancellor, a concentration camp for political prisoners was set up in Dachau. It served as a model for all later concentration camps and as a "school of violence" for the men of the SS, under whose rule it stood. It has been a place of remembrance and memorial since 1965 and is visited annually by around 800,000 people from all over the world.

Tourists from all over the world come to Germany to visit memorial sites. One reason is surely the shared fascination of evil. It is the horrors of industrial genocide and the unimaginable crimes Germans committed in the III. Reich. Another equally important reason is the interest in Germany's coping with its past.
